Questions, answered
Questions about texting.
Short answers about numbers, replies, and STOP.
Do I need a phone number?
No. You choose a sender name, up to 11 letters or digits such as your company name, and texting works straight away. The exception is the US and Canada, where phone companies only accept texts from a number.
Can customers reply?
Yes, with a reply number. The Business plan includes one for the whole workspace, from the US (toll-free), Canada, the UK, Sweden or the Netherlands. Until it is approved, texts keep coming from your sender name. A US number needs your business checked first, which usually takes a few days.
What happens when someone texts STOP?
With a reply number, STOP marks the contact as opted out and they are never texted again, by you, Autopilot, or the Assistant. START turns texts back on. Without a number, set the SMS opted out date on the contact by hand when someone asks.
How many texts are included?
Texts come with your plan: 30 a month on Pro and 120 on Business, shared by everyone in the workspace. Each text counts once, however long. A text that never left does not count, and Settings, Billing shows how many are left.
Who can send texts?
Admins and editors, once texting is shared with them, and only to contacts they can see. The Send Text button appears when the contact has a phone number.
Can Autopilot or the Assistant send texts?
Yes. Autopilot has a Send message step, and you can ask the AI Assistant to text a contact. Both skip anyone who opted out.
Where do I see what was sent?
On the contact. Every text shows in their Interactions and timeline next to their emails, with its status: Waiting to send, Sent, Delivered, or Not delivered with the reason.
Can I text from a shared number?
Yes. Share the connection with teammates and its Inbox shows each person's texts as a chat. Replies from the Inbox go out as texts, not email.
